About the Author
Though born in the United States, Rosalie Klein is proud to be thought of as an Aruban. After living on the island for more than 35 years, she is firmly entrenched in Aruban life.Rosalie moved to Aruba in 1980 to work as the island's first female certified PADI open-water SCUBA instructor. Her writing career began in 2001 when she began submitting articles to local papers about tourism events. She worked as a journalist and photographer for English newspaper The News until 2009, and from 2010 to 2014 she has been the principal reporter and photographer for The Morning News.Rosalie has published articles about Aruba's people, history, culture, and tourism services in dozens of publications, including Aruba Events, Aruba Experience, Destinations, House Complete, Chef's Menu and Recipe, On The Air, Island Gourmet, and Aruba Nights. Her photos have also been exhibited at the Aruba Numismatic Museum. In 2008, the Minister of Culture of Aruba recognized her for chronicling Aruba's cultural achievements and heritage.Rosalie currently lives in Oranjestad with two dogs, and three cats. First of all, looking at the cover, we were excited to see the pink flamingos but later learned that they are only found on an island owned by the Renaissance hotel. Why are the flamingos just at this location (and very expensive to get to as well)?. The answer is that the hotel keeps the birds there by clipping their wings for toursit dollars (pass on this experience as it is expensive and offers nothing special). The book failed to mention this. Furthermore, after spending a week on the island, we found the book was severely lacking; not mentioning many insightful tips for booking off the beaten path excursions, and failed to mention some of the best things to do. We found amazing hidden snorkeling places by talking to locals as well as much more creative and less expensive dining options none of which are mentioned in this book. You will do much better by reading reviews and sugesstions on trip advisor then you will by buying this book. One of the worst guide books I have purchased.
This book is fantastic & reliable! We'd have been lost without the book, because the large resort we stayed at had a "concierge" that was only pushing products for a single large company. The book helped us chart our own path in Aruba, instead of getting stuck on the usual large scale tourist activities. Great tour guide and sailing recommendations, also spot on for the restaurants. I wish all travel books were this accurate! Hats off to Rosalie Klein for publishing such a useful guide.
I am an old fashioned traveler who loves to use a guide book to get the lay of the land. Moon is my go to travel source, but after this book, I will think twice. . .no I'll think a million times before purchasing. First, they don't have a map of Aruba. They have several maps . . one for each of the major areas, . . .but seriously you couldn't put a map of the entire island and label breakouts areas? There is no discussion on the background, major languages, or how to get to the island from major US airports. The book is organized by subject. . .food, water sports etc. instead of areas of the island. Want to go to the National Park in the morning and grab lunch on your way to Baby Beach? Good luck finding a place to go unless you take the time to google the restaurants listed in the food section. Also, the writing is uneven. . .some restaurants/activities get a short paragraph while others get an entire column but the additional information isn't really important. It is like they were just filling space to make the book long enough. I know we can use online services to supplement the book, but without online access this book is very limited and not worth the cost.
Every travel book that I've purchased in the past (Hawaii, Florida, Germany, Italy) had a lot of insider tips and information that was extremely useful. This book doesn't have any of that. It's a decent overview of the island as a whole, but not that useful when choosing specific places to stay, restaurants to eat at, or things to do.
Ordered this for my parent's upcoming trip. Wanted to put a little folder together with all their paperwork and a guide book. Was so pleasantly surprised at the cost of this perfect, brand new book in comparison to purchasing others. Looking through it, all the tourist places, maps, and everything else one could want was inside. Shipping was super quick and would purchase from this seller again.
I ordered this book for a recent trip to Aruba and absolutely LOVED it! It was an easy read and captured the sites of Aruba perfectly. I don't know how we would have decided what activities to do without the book. I highly recommend this book if your're a Type A planner traveling to Aruba.

Great book. Has all you need for Aruba. I combined that with TripAdvisor and had it all figured out by the time we got there.
